Take It Like a Man - Boy George Paperback

Under 500g $2

When he was a little boy growing up in Woolwich, the 'pink sheep' of his working-class Irish family, George wanted to be like Shirley Bassey. As a man, famous for his gender-bending clothes and elaborate make up as much as for his success as the lead singer of Culture Club, he became a media darling and pop icon. And then came fame, and drugs, and a spectacular fall from grace ...Writing with complete honesty, and with his usual biting wit, Boy George chronicles his extraordinary life and times in this highly acclaimed autobiography.

'If there's another book that can top it for bitchiness, sex, glamour, fame and heartache, then Jackie Collins must be the author' Q

'Candid and entertaining ...his public image was wildly at odds with his private self, the self that was living fabulously and wildly, gorging on drugs, food and sex, trashing hotel rooms and brawling with friends' The Times

Sliding into Home - Kendra Wilkinson Large Format Paperback

Under 500g $3

Fans of the E! smash hit series The Girls Next Door fell in love with sporty Playboy beauty Kendra Wilkinson’s care- free spirit, infectious laugh, and down-to-earth nature. Now that she’s moved out of the world’s most famous bachelor pad and into her own delightfully chaotic world on Kendra as wife to NFL star Hank Baskett and mother to their newborn son, we’ve watched her hilarious antics as she adjusts to domestic life. But how much do we really know about the fun-loving star? In this humorous and optimistic, sometimes heartbreaking, but always unfailingly honest memoir, Kendra reveals the highs and lows of her extraordinary journey.

She wasn’t always the quintessential girl next door. Before she was a reality television superstar, Hugh Hefner’s girlfriend, or one of the most popular Playboy cover models ever, Kendra was an athletic tomboy whose father walked out on her family when she was a little girl. She grew into a rebellious teenager with a serious drug habit before she quit cold turkey and beat the odds to graduate from a high school that almost didn’t give her a second (or third, or fourth) chance.

Following her rocky teenage years, an out-of-the- blue phone call from Hugh Hefner changed everything. Kendra dishes candidly about life in the Playboy Mansion: the sex, the parties, the show, and even her relationships with her Girls Next Door costars—Hef, Holly, and Bridget. She tells the true story about how she and Hank met and built a relationship in secret while she was still Hef’s girl- friend and a public face of Playboy. Finally, she reflects on the slew of unexpected changes in the short space of a year that have brought her sliding into home from Playboy party girl to wife and mother with a blooming Hollywood career. If you think you’ve seen all of Kendra, think again. She’s only warming up....

Almost French - Sarah Turnbull Paperback

Under 500g $3

Before Eat, Pray, Love there was Almost French.

'This isn't like me. I'm not the sort of girl who crosses continents to meet up with a man she hardly knows. Paris hadn't even been part of my travel plan …'

After backpacking her way around Europe journalist Sarah Turnbull is ready to embark on one last adventure before heading home to Sydney. A chance meeting with a charming Frenchman in Bucharest changes her travel plans forever. Acting on impulse, she agrees to visit Frédéric in Paris for a week.

Put a very French Frenchman together with a strong-willed Australian girl and the result is some spectacular - and often hilarious - cultural clashes. Language is a minefield of misunderstanding and the simple act of buying a baguette is fraught with social danger. But as she navigates the highs and lows of this strange new world, from the sophisticated cafés and haute couture fashion houses to the picture postcard French countryside, little by little Sarah falls under its spell: passionate, mysterious, infuriating, and charged with that French specialty - séduction. And it becomes her home.

Almost French is the story of an adventurous heart, a maddening city - and love.

A Lion Called Christian - Anthony Bourke & John Rendall Hardcover

Under 500g $5

In 2008 an extraordinary two-minute film clip appeared on YouTube and immediately became an international phenomenon. It captures the moving reunion of two young men and their pet lion Christian, after they had left him in Africa with "Born Free's "George Adamson to introduce him into his rightful home in the wild. "A Lion Called Christian "tells the remarkable story of how Anthony "Ace" Bourke and John Rendall, visitors to London from Australia in 1969, bought the boisterous lion cub in the pet department of Harrods. For several months, the three of them shared a flat above a furniture shop on London's King's Road, where the charismatic and intelligent Christian quickly became a local celebrity, cruising the streets in the back of a Bentley, popping in for lunch at a local restaurant, even posing for a fashion advertisement. But the lion cub was growing up - "fast" - and soon even the walled church garden where he went for exercise wasn't large enough for him. How could Ace and John avoid having to send Christian to a zoo for the rest of his life? A coincidental meeting with English actors Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers, stars of the hit film "Born Free," led to Christian being flown to Kenya and placed under the expert care of "the father of lions" George Adamson. Incredibly, when Ace and John returned to Kenya to see Christian a year later, they received a loving welcome from their lion, who was by then fully integrated into Africa and a life with other lions. Originally published in 1971, and now fully revised and updated with more than 50 photographs of Christian from cuddly cub in London to magnificent lion in Africa, " A Lion Called Christian "is a touching and uplifting true story of an indelible human-animal bond. It is is destined to become one of the great classics of animal literature.

Life with my Sister Madonna - Christopher Ciccone Paperback

Under 500g $3

Christopher Ciccone's extraordinary memoir is based on his forty-seven years of growing up with, working with and understanding the most famous woman of our time. Throughout most of the iconic star's kaleidoscopic career, Christopher played an important role in her life: as her back-up dancer, her personal assistant, her dresser, her decorator, her art director and tour director. Only Christopher can tell the full and riveting story behind her carefully constructed mythology, and reveal the real woman behind the glittering facade. From their shared Michigan childhood and the early days in Manhattan, when he slept on her roach-infested floor and danced with her in clubs all over town, Christopher was with her every step of the way, experiencing her first-hand in all her incarnations. The punk drummer, the raunchy Boy Toy, Material Girl, Mrs Sean Penn, loving mother, Mrs Guy Ritchie, English grand dame -- Christopher witnessed and understood all of them, as his own life was inexorably entwined with that of his chameleon sister. He tangled with a cast of characters from artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, to Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss, Demi Moore and, of course, Guy Ritchie, whose advent in Madonna's life splintered the loving relationship Christopher once had with her. The mirror image of his legendary sister, with his acid Ciccone tongue, Christopher pulls no punches as he tells his astonishing story.

Parcel Arrived Safely Tied With String - Michael Crawford Hardcover

Over 500g $2

By turns hilarious, revelatory and desperately sad, here is the autobiography of the man whose TV and stage appearances such as Hello Dolly!, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em and The Phantom of the Opera have made him a national institution. The story of the true identity of his father, which is behind this book's title, leads into an evocative depiction of his tender childhood years. Whilst all the men were away at war, Crawford was surrounded by loving women. For him this was an idyllic wartime childhood, but the return of the men in peacetime signalled darker times to come. Crawford's infectious enjoyment of stage work illumines his account of his early struggles to make a name for himself in the theatre business, and his early failures with girls are lifted by his abiding sense of the absurd. Both in his private life and his work as a successful actor and TV comedian, he begins a lifetime's habit of pratfalls that he would later turn to good use in the character of Frank Spencer in smash hit 1970s TV comedy show Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. His talent for mimicry makes the great personalities in his life come alive on the page; people he has worked with, including Benjamin Britten who taught him to sing, John Lennon - with whom he shared a villa - and Oliver Reed, Michael Winner, Barbra Streisand, Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra.

Broken Music - The Autobiography - Sting Hardcover

Over 500g $5

'I pore over Beatles albums with the same obsessive and forensic scrutiny that I'd applied to Rodgers and Hammerstein, only now I have a guitar. I have an instrument that can reproduce the practical magic of the chord structures and the network of riffs that their songs are built on. And what songs, one after the other, album after album. I learn to play them all, confident that if I persevere, what I can't play immediately will yield its secret eventually. I will reapply the needle of the record player again and again to the bars of music that seem beyond my analysis, like a safecracker picking a lock, until the prize is mine. No school subject ever occupies as much of my time or energy. I'm not claiming that any kind of prescience about the future was at work here, but there was something in the driven and compulsive nature of this obsession that was unusual, something in the unconscious saying, "This is how you escape." "This is how you escape."

Teaching Your Children Sensitivity - Linda & Richard Eyre Paperback

Under 500g $3

"Although the task of helping typically self-absorbed children become aware of the needs and feelings of others is daunting, sensitivity lies at the heart of those values and qualities responsible parents strive to develop in their offspring. The authors of Teaching Your Children Values (1993) explore the concept of sensitivity to others and how to nurture it and propose a practical nine-month program of skills and awareness development. Progressing through understanding, observing, feeling, communicating, and doing, the Eyres provide practical advice, illustrative stories, parental approaches, and exercises for reinforcing those sensitivity skills. The fresh techniques they advocate, like writing poetry and playing detective, are to help children and their parents hone their abilities to be more honest about their own feelings, more aware of others'. The inspirational, interesting process the Eyres present will make being good more enjoyable for children and doing good more meaningful for adolescents" - Kathryn Carpenter

The Doctor Who Handbook - Seventh Doctor - Paperback

Under 500g $15

Doctor Who The Handbook: The Seventh Doctor, often referred to as simply The Seventh Doctor Handbook, is the seventh and last in the Handbook series by David J Howe and Stephen James Walker - the major contribution by Doctor Who Books to the world of professionally published Doctor Who reference works.

The book is highly regarded as a significant work of Doctor Who scholarship and is used as one of the main reference works for several later reference projects, perhaps most ubiquitously Shannon Sullivan's A Brief History of (Time) Travel website and several issues of Doctor Who Magazine Special Edition.

It is also notable for being the final Doctor Who book of any kind published by any division of Virgin Books, having been released well after the expiry of Virgin's license with the BBC. It was therefore technically released under a special one-off license with the BBC. Each handbook provides both a broad overview and a detailed analysis of one phase of the programme's history.

Sylvester McCoy brought the mystery back to Doctor Who. With his companions Mel, and later the irrepressible Ace, he battled the Rani, Daleks, Cybermen, Haemovores and all manner of other alien horrors to bring justice to the universe, and perhaps enjoying a nice cup of tea once the fighting was all over. Ace, on the other hand, just wanted to blow things up, and it took the Doctor's influence to shape and focus her energies so that she emerged as arguably the most popular of all the Doctor's companions.

This book is an in-depth study of Sylvester McCoy's tenure as the Doctor, including a profile of the actor, a critical summery of each story he starred in, and much, much more.

In addition, this volume looks at what is happened to Doctor Who following its cancellation in 1989, with extensive coverage of the 1996 telemovie which featured Sylvester McCoy as the Doctor and which introduced Paul McGann as the mercurial and bohemian Eighth Doctor.
